A wonderful blue-gray teapot by Johnson Brothers in the popular Greydawn pattern. Love the shape of the teapot, which holds 6 cups. The colour is gentle and restrained. Will hold its own on a contemporary table setting.

In the 1920s, Johnson Brothers introduced coloured clay called “Dawn” series to the market. What we have here is from the discontinued Greydawn pattern. I think this is an antique going by the backstamp. But I can't be certain.

Dimensions:
25cm (spout to handle); 14cm tall

This particular backstamp was used from c1913. In good vintage condition. The interior is clean and without stain. There is a very faint crazing near the backstamp. And a tiny chip on the underside of lid. However, these have been magnified in close up photos. They don't detract from the function of teapot.

Started in 1883, the Johnson Brothers was founded by grandsons of master potter Alfred Meakin. The pottery gained reputation for producing "semi-porcelain", that combined features of fine china and durability of ironstone. It was successful at tableware exports to the United States. It joined the Wedgwood group in 1968 and ceased production in 2015.

Important Note: Please expect condition of vintage and antique items to naturally have signs of age and use, unless it's stated otherwise.
